Project Owner
West Virginia Division of Highways, Greenbrier County, District 9
Location
Nicholas County, West Virginia
Work
3.5 acres of canopy clearing
Time
3 weeks
We were retained by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) to clear vegetation next to a high-traffic road. The goal of the project was to reclaim the state’s Right of Way (ROW) so that vegetation management services could be moved from canopy clearing to grass mowing, which is more cost-effective and less labor-intense.
Material Removal
One reason this job was challenging was the qualification that all material needed to be removed from the site. In steep sections of the ROW, our team needed to utilize special equipment to reach down far enough to pull out material. A grapple truck was also utilized to easily load and transport logs without the assistance of the production equipment onsite.
Changing Scope
We worked with the onsite supervisors at WVDOH to adjust the project scope several times according to their needs. The job doubled in size by the time we were done with it, and we were able to successfully update our estimated pricing with county administrators.
Special Equipment
Equipment required by this project included a truck buncher, forestry mower, long-reach excavator, and grapple truck.
Our team was able to safely and successfully complete this project. This is one of several projects for the West Virginia Division of Highways, and we’re pleased to be able to provide efficient labor to keep the state’s roadways running smoothly.
